Blues Host 7-on-7 Tourney
The Parry McCluer High School football team, under the direction of first-year head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough (at near right, holding papers), played host for a 7-on-7 tournament last Wednesday at Camden Field in Buena Vista. The Blues were the only Class 1 school there, competing against larger schools Alleghany, James River and Staunton. BrockenbroughsaidtheBlues “played really well to be the smallest school there,” losing close games to Alleghany and James River. Also helping guide the Blues was assistant coach Zack Flower (below), touching elbows with a Staunton player. (Stephanie Mikels Blevins photos) 06/21/2023 12:00 AM

Hay making equipment has been busy for some weeks due in part to a spate of dry weather favorable for drying newly mowed hay. Harvesting hay is a centuries-old rite of summer revolutionized by mechanization. Escalating costs of replacement equipment, parts, and fuel in recent years prompt me to return this topic. 06/14/2023 12:00 AM
