The Rockbridge Area Relief Association celebrated its 50th anniversary this past Saturday at its headquarters at the Piovano building on Spotswood Drive. A tasty assortment of nibbles was provided by Ladles & Linens. Pronto served up sfogliatelle and cannoli for dessert. Beer was supplied by Devils Backbone and wine by Sassaia. Datz Us Ramblers were on hand for musical entertainment and activities such as face painting and a bounce house were available for the children in attendance. The organization provides food through its Neighborhood Grocery (formerly known as the food pantry) and offers assistance for people who are struggling to pay their bills. The Guns and Hoses softball games took place at Secrist Park in Glen Maury Park on Saturday evening, and the Guns (wearing blue), comprised of the Buena Vista law enforcement community, won both games. They were playing against the Hoses (wearing red), the Buena Vista Fire Department and rescue squad. Donations and funds raised at the game went to the new playground at Glen Maury Park.
