Volunteers Honored
ConnectionPlus Healthcare + Hospice, formerly Rockbridge Area Hospice, held its annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon last month. Volunteers serve a huge role at the organization and without them, it would not be able to provide the extra scope of services needed to ensure that its patients and their families can enjoy life for as long as possible, said a spokesperson. Recognized were administrative and patient care volunteer Peter Fyfe (left) and patient care volunteer Ann Nay. Together they have almost 60 years of dedication and loyalty to the organization.

RC Softball Suffers Setbacks
The Rockbridge County High School softball team suffered a pair of road losses last week, falling to Alleghany 13-1 in five innings on Thursday before suffering an 8-2 loss to Valley District rival Spotswood on Friday. The loss to Spotswood was the seventh consecutive defeat for the Wildcats (5-12).

Parry McCluer High School junior Kovyk Chandler broke his own school record in the boys’ 3200-meter run at the Dogwood Track Classic last weekend at the University of Virginia, and Rockbridge County junior Deena Ludtke set a new school record in the girls’ 3200-meter run, leading several local athletes competing there.

The Parry McCluer High School baseball team split a pair of Pioneer District home games last week, falling at Bath County 10-8 last Monday before bouncing back with a 12-1 win in five innings at Eastern Montgomery last Tuesday.
