Glasgow
Wow, what a storm that rolled into town on Friday afternoon! Wind, rain and hail, downed trees, or tree limbs, moved outbuildings and even the porta-john at the Farmers Market moved about 4 feet. Most of the damage was located on Kanawha and Virginia streets and down towards the river. I only heard of one household being without power for awhile, which is amazing. I didn’t hear of any injuries due to the downed trees. The Randy Smith home on Virginia Street had a tree fall on part of his place. Members of the fire department went door to door checking on folks.

Surprise Visitors
On Thursday, June 15, children at St. Patrick Catholic Church’s vacation Bible achool, “Stellar,” welcomed two visitors, Luna, a Fainting Goat, and Blueberry Cream, a LaMancha goat, courtesy of parishioners Val Lund and Fritz Fleming. They were the week’s surprise “God Sightings,” illustrating that all creatures, great and small, reflect the goodness and the light of the Lord. (Kathleen Nowacki-Correia photo)

Carnival Nights In Raphine
The weather was perfect and the crowds were large for the annual Raphine Volunteer Fire Department’s annual carnival last week. There were plenty of rides, games, music and food, including barbecue chicken dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings. Helping to serve the chicken dinners was (in photo at bottom right, in foreground) Gertrude Shull. Among those playing the dime toss game (in photo at bottom left) was Kayden Ruley. Summer Storm
What the National Weather Service describes as a straight-line wind event toppled several large trees and blew over an outbuilding in Glasgow during the storm that went through the Rockbridge area Friday afternoon. One tree, pictured above, fell partially on a house on Virginia Street. The storm also brought hail to Glasgow and other parts of the area, as seen in the photo at left. (Carolyn Bradley photos)
