Phyllis Stinnett Lanier, 81, of Doe Hill died Nov. 11

Phyllis (Stinnett) Lanier, age 81, of Doe Hill, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at her residence.

She was born October 25, 1942, in Buena Vista, the last surviving child of the late Lewis and Banner (Staton) Stinnett.

Mrs. Lanier was baptized in and held membership with Victory Baptist Church in Buena Vista. Phyllis retired from Mohawk Industries after more than 40 years of employment. Following her retirement, she began working with the U.S. Forest Service maintaining camping areas within the George Washington Nation Forest, claiming it to be “the best job she’d ever had.”

Phyllis loved her car rides and time spent talking with her best friend, Jodie Stinnett. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted mother, who always ensured her son’s needs were met.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Maynard and Lewis Stinnett; and sisters, Doris Mason and Hilda Thurston.

Surviving family members include her beloved son, Wayne Lee Painter Jr. of Doe Hill; a granddaughter, Alexa (Painter) Belgard and husband, Alex of Charlottesville; a niece she considered her own child, Robin Scott Staton of Buena Vista; aunt, Claire Staton of Buena Vista; as well as a number of nieces and cousins.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at Victory Baptist Church, Buena Vista, with Pastor Dean Staton officiating.
