Mary Virginia Dunn Stephens, 79, of Natural Bridge died Feb. 9

 

Mary Virginia Dunn Stephens, 79, of Natural Bridge, went home to be with her Lord and savior on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023. She was born on June 4, 1943, to the late John William Dunn Sr. and Virginia Webster Dunn.

Mary was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Natural Bridge where she served on the usher board and several committees. She participated in many church activities and programs throughout the years. She was also a member and served as Worthy Matron of the Ann Ellen Early Chapter 209th order of Eastern Stars (OES).

In Mary’s early years, she attended the historic school for African-American children, Lylburn Downing School, where she was top of her class. She also attended cosmetology school after graduating, which she excelled at as well. She would later go on to work at Dynovis Inc. for many years up until her passing.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Dunn; her daughter, Veronica Stephens McGeorge; her sister, Ruth Juanita Dunn Stewart; and her brother-in-law, Leonard Steven Stewart Sr.; and her daughter-in-law, Latrice Ferrel Stephens.

Those left to cherish the sweet memories of Mary are her sons, Eugene Wesley Stephens Jr. and Jerome Warren Stephens (Sondra); her daughter, Sheneka Renee Stephens; her sister, Jacqueline Dunn Neal of Upper Marlboro, Md.; her brothers, the Rev. John William Dunn Jr. (Doris) of Fort Washington, Md., and Deacon David Dunn (Pamela) of Lexington; two aunts, Doris Webster of Natural Bridge and Ramona Scott Dunn of Natural Bridge; and devoted cousin, Laverne Hunt. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Mary also had a host of nieces and nephews who were very special to her.

Services will be held at Harrison Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Diamond Cemetery in Glasgow.
