Martha Campbell, 87, of Fairfield died Sept. 26

Martha Anne Lawhorne Campbell, 87, of Fairfield died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at her home.

She was born June 3, 1936, in Cornwall, a daughter of the late Willis Adam Lawhorne and Laura Shoemaker Lawhorne.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters-in-law: James (Uvon), Warren (Frances) and Lewis. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Irene Lawhorne.

Martha served the residents of Rockbridge County as Clerk of the District Court for 21 years. She was a faithful member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, active in the United Methodist Women and singing alto in the choir.

Martha enjoyed a number of hobbies and activities ‒ traveling with her husband, spending time with family, cooking for family and friends, baking bread, attending track meets, reading, knitting and geocaching.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Roy Kennan Campbell; children, Kenmar Alexander (Sam) of Staunton and Courtney Campbell (Pam) of Berryville; four grandchildren, Laura Draper Bou-Khalil, Lindsay Alexander, Adam Campbell and Zachary Campbell; and five great grandchildren, Raphy, Sebi, Marilou, Asher and Collins.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 at Fairfield United Methodist Church. Following the service, there will be food and a time to visit and share stories and memories in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private at Fairfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairfield United Methodist Church.
