Karen VanNess Turpin, 68, of Lexington died Sept. 25

 

Karen VanNess Turpin, 68, of Lexington died Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born March 31, 1955, in Lexington, she was a daughter of Carrie Hotinger VanNess and the late Norman VanNess.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy McClung Turpin Sr.; nephew Derek Parrent; brother-in-law C.B. Potter; and canine friend George.

Karen was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church and was a cashier for Kmart. She loved flowers, hummingbirds, gardening, canning and sewing.

Surviving are her children, Tommy McClung "TJ" Turpin Jr. and John Norman Turpin; sisters, Mary Gold Parrent (Keith) and Donna Potter; nephews, Kevin Parrent (Jennifer) and Conner Ray Potter (Kelsey); niece, Maelea Potter; great-nephews, Troy Parrent and Luke Parrent; and great-niece, Brooke Wilson.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Skip Hastings. Burial will follow at Oxford Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Karen's memory to the charity of your choice.
