Joyce Anne “JoAnne” Martin Dolan, 76, of Midlothian passed away peacefully at her home June 8.

 

Joyce Anne “JoAnne” Martin Dolan, 76, of Midlothian passed away peacefully at her home June 8.

Joanne grew up in the Lexington area on her family's Maplemont farm in Fairfield. A graduate of Rockbridge High School, she continued her academic studies at Southern Seminary in Buena Vista and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, earning her bachelor of art in Art. While at VCU she met her husband John O'Shea Dolan with whom she had her daughter Amy.

JoAnne had a long and lucrative career in the retail industry, working as a buyer for Thalhimer's and a manager for Montaldo's before launching her own interior design company, The Turquoise Tomato.

Survivors include daughter Amy MacDowell Dolan Reistrup (Gordon), two grandchildren, William "Will" Gianniny and Catherine "Cate" Gianniny; sisters Kathy Lefever (Neil), Elizabeth Bowers (Tim); nephew Douglas Webster (Abby), nieces Keily Lefever Nebel (Mark) and Kendall Lefever Bogese (Bryan); and great nephews James and Alex Nebel, and Brayden, Ben and Mason Bogese; longtime partner Larry Shelley, caregivers Kathy Lobdell and David Burrows, and beloved cat Abigail.

She is preceded in death by her parents, June Robinson Martin and James J. Martin, Jr., sister Jean "Mickey" Martin Webster, and former husband John.

A celebration of life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockbridge County Area Hospice or the SPCA.
