Born July 17, 1931, at Stuart Circle Hospital in Richmond, Cornelia “Connie” Arvin Lawrence Snider died peacefully after a long illness in the hospital in Lexington on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023. She was 92.

She and her twin brother Nimrod Lawrence, who preceded her in death, were born to Milton Douglas and Julia Arvin Lawrence and lived along with an older brother, Robert Lawrence, among a large family of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

After attending Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Connie transferred to James Madison College where she earned a degree in education and a Teachers Certificate. With these in hand, she stalwartly and proudly dedicated her life to teaching Virginia’s school children along with support and participation in the Virginia Education Association for as long as she could travel.

Her career was only second to her life-long love and marriage of 67 years to Daniel “Danny” R. Snider of Kerrs Creek, who survives her, along with their children Dana “Dee” Arvin Snider Justice (David) of Buena Vista, Daniel Reid Snider Jr. (Pam) of Richmond, and Milton Penick Snider of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In her younger years Connie was an avid softball and tennis player, and a lover of gardening. Her love of baseball and Virginia Tech sports remained throughout her life. Connie kept the companionship of the couple’s pets close by her side.

She was a unique soul who will be sorely missed by those who knew her and loved her.

A graveside service will held to remember Connie at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church on Dec. 2 at 11 a.m.
