Alice Mae Lynn Painter, 87, of Buena Vista entered Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 8, 2023. She passed peacefully at her home while surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Alice Mae Lynn Painter, 87, of Buena Vista entered Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 8, 2023. She passed peacefully at her home while surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born May 8, 1935, in Buena Vista, she was a daughter of Charles Racey Lynn and Anna Mae Coleman Lynn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Thurman Lee Painter, and a sister Jacquelyn Price.

Alice was a member of the Victory Baptist Church, Buena Vista. She was employed by the Rockbridge County Public School System, retiring after 25 years of working at Mountain View Elementary School cafeteria. She made a career of doing what she enjoyed. She loved to cook and she loved making sure everyone ate. From the cafeteria line to those wonderful home-cooked meals, she made lots of people happy.

She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, always making herself available to babysit nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever she was needed. Alice had an infectious smile and didn’t mind sharing it with all she met. She was always willing to help anyone in need. She was an amazing gift and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brenda Lonas, Mary Anna Summers (Ted), Sharon Chittum (Steve), T. Lee Painter and Kathy Painter; grandchildren, David, Matthew and Kacee Lonas, Anthony and Joshua Wright, Wendy Hargrove, Jason Chittum, Ashley Marshall, Christy Tomlin, Stacey Patterson, Randy and Bridgette Painter, Kamilah and Imari Meeks; 16 greatgrandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Woods; and brothers Ronald Lynn (Shirley) and Galen Lynn (Becky).

The funeral was conducted Monday, March 13, at Victory Baptist Church by the Rev. Dean Staton. Burial followed at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 3700 Lombardy Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416 and/or Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements were handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services. N-G
