Aisha Brooks-Johnson, Executive Presbyter of Greater Atlanta. The theme of the festival is “Faith Now: 21st Century Discipleship” and features a series of events “exploring the nature of faith in the current moment – in our context of social, economic and racial injustice, when the world and many Christian churches are polarized, and as the post-COVID landscape places new challenges before communities of faith.” 02/28/2023 11:00 PM
Chili Dinner On Shrove Tuesday
Chili Dinner On Shrove Tuesday
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Glasgow observed Shrove Tuesday on Feb. 21 with a chili dinner. The church had observed the day with a pancake dinner, but it was decided a few years back that chili was better. Congregants gathered around the communal table to share four different kinds of chili. The church’s last Shrove Tuesday dinner was pre-pandemic in 2020 when it was joined with a “thank you” dinner for the spring break mission group of students from the College of the Holy Cross. During the opening ceremonies of the Lone Star Rodeo Friday night at the Anderson Coliseum of the Virginia Horse Center, an American flag was unfurled in the darkened arena in a salute to the U.S. armed forces. The theme of this year’s rodeo tour was “God and Country.” Several local riders took part in this year’s rodeo, held over two nights at the VHC. For more photos from the rodeo, see page A7. A History Lesson
A History Lesson
My father died six years ago last month. He was 97 years old, having lived most of his life the way he wanted, a tenacity admirable at times, stubbornly foolish at others. 02/28/2023 11:00 PM
