For Final Concert Of Season
For Final Concert Of Season
The Pickup Band will perform in the final Music in the Garden event at Boxerwood this Friday, starting at 6 p.m. This is a rain date for the high-energy rock and country band, which was originally scheduled to perform in July. The five-piece group is a mix of local and not so local talent. Rockbridge natives Phil Holstein and Rocky Smith play guitars and sing. John Good on all things percussion has called the county home since 1993. Leading the pack are Kenton Kody on guitars, fiddle, banjo, mandolin and vocals, and Gloria Lewayne, who does most of the vocal work, along with the occasional guitar and tambourine. Admission is free for Boxerwood members, $5 per person for nonmembers. Kids under 18 and parking are free. Pass-the-hat proceeds go to the musicians. The gate opens at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking. Meals can also be purchased on-site from a local food truck. 09/20/2023 12:00 AM

Buckshot Finds A Family
Buckshot Finds A Family
Buckshot (left), a bluetick hound that had been a resident of the Rockbridge SPCA since June of 2022, found his forever home last week with Chris and Christina McKemy. The Rockbridge County couple is now a three-dog family as they adopted another dog, Alice, and already had a dog, Fred. Since Buckshot was featured in a recent article about the SPCA being filled to capacity with dogs and cats, four dogs and nine cats have been adopted and another nine dogs have gone to rescues. So far this year, the SPCA has taken in 339 cats and 217 dogs. 09/20/2023 12:00 AM

As summer gives way to fall this week, Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista continues to be a happening place. The refurbished and expanded campground is filling up to capacity with recreational vehicles driven by folks who are here for the 21st Nothin’ Fancy Music Festival being held Thursday, Friday and Saturday. With additional camp sites now in place, the park is likely to have the most campers it has ever had this weekend. 09/20/2023 12:00 AM
