MICHAEL MITCHELL
MICHAEL MITCHELL
Michael William Mitchell of Raphine passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home.
Michael came into this world on Sept. 30, 1981, several weeks ahead of schedule, in his own way and time, as a fighter; and that is how he has lived his life ever since.
After graduating from BathCounty High School in 2000, Michael went on to earn an associate’s degree in information technology. With over 20 years in the field, Michael took great pride in helping people with their IT needs and keeping people’s online presence safe.
For those who knew him, Michael will be remembered as a loyal friend and colleague. Michael had deep compassion for people who were hurting and grieved the injustices of the world. For his family, Michael will be remembered for his tender love, fierce protection, and quick sarcasm which always brought much laughter. More than anything in the world, he loved being at home with his wife, his son, and his cats.
He enjoyed simple pleasures in his downtime, playing video games, listening to music, going for bike rides, building Legos, or binge watching his favorite shows. He nostalgically treasured movies from his childhood, “Ghostbusters,” “The Karate Kid,” “Indiana Jones,” and most importantly, “The Goonies.” He also loved to go to the beach and spend hours swimming in the ocean, a place where he was most at ease. He was proud to be a Mitchell, proud to be a “Hollins Husband,” and especially proud of the young man his son is becoming.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Loren; his son Kemper; his mother, Deborah; his father, Bass; his sister, Meredith; and his brother-in-law, Nick. He is also remembered by his extended family and in-laws, all of whom will carry these memories of Michael with them.
The family appreciates your love and prayers. A private family memorial will be held in the days ahead.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate funds to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, an organization that Michael himself supported.
We all miss you Michael; Goonies never say die.
Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
