Students at Mountain View Elementary School were sent home Friday morning after an electrical smell promoted a large emergency response.
The situation unfolded shortly after drop-off as kids were just getting to school.
“Due to an unsafe odor and smoke in our building, students are being sent home at this time. Your child will arrive via bus here shortly,” the school wrote in an email to parents.
A News-Gazette reporter at the scene saw multiple fire trucks and an ambulance as firefighters worked to figure out the cause of the odor.
Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue Chief Nathan Ramsey said there was a malfunction of an HVAC unit on the roof and that there was no fire or damage to the building.
We’re working to learn more about this developing story.
