Support For Ukrainian Families Appreciated

April 24, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: We are thankful to ever so many local friends, many of whom are active volunteers assisting daily, for their hugely generous support for the three Ukrainian families now living in Lexington.

April 24, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: We are thankful to ever so many local friends, many of whom are active volunteers assisting daily, for their hugely generous support for the three Ukrainian families now living in Lexington.

Last week’s issue of The News-Gazette highlighted that very point, through Sonny and Bruce MacDonald’s generous letter telling of the community’s outpouring during the past months and our April 15 dinner, “celebrating” the safe harbor that the Rockbridge area has provided; a gathering supported by The News-Gazette’s own Hope Huger’s wonderful pictures, each with excellent captions.

Beyond being a “celebration” of the Ukrainians thanking our community and our community responding by showing our loving support, two expressions of tangible help emerged.

One was a very significant sum of funds to continue helping the 14 Ukrainians living here and another was a collecting of funds, separately, supporting a self-initiative outreach created by the three Ukrainian mothers for money to be sent directly overseas to buy medicine and food for those still in Ukraine, where inflation and short supplies are now the new normal.

Our need to help continues, as does the call for each reader to pray for peace.

Again, thanks to everyone for offering their “hands up” in this expression of humanitarian love. ANN and JERRY NAY HostingUkrainianFamilies.org
