Rockbridge Conservation’s next webinar will be tonight, Wednesday, Jan 18, at 7 and will focus on invasive plants species in the Rockbridge area, including Kudzu, Chinese privet, Japanese knotweed, burning bush and tree of heaven.

Jared Lee, associate biology professor at Southern Virginia University, will present the seminar entitled, “Kudzu and Beyond: Addressing Invasive Plants in Rockbridge.”

He will talk about invasive plants in general and issues associated with them as well as local invasives, in particular kudzu, its history, and some recent research on it.

Lee’s work focuses on identifying invasion routes for invasive species using genetic markers. The lab he worked in for his PhD research looked at a number of plant and animal species introduced between the United States and China, including kudzu, privet, and mosquitofish. He has observed and collected invasive species throughout the United States, China, and the Philippines.

Time will be available for questions and answers.

As always, Rockbridge Conservation’s webinars are free, but advanced registration is required; register via www.rockbridgeconservation. org.
