Robert "Bob" Toman, 86, of Rockbridge Baths died Feb. 5

Robert Bailey "Bob" Toman, 86, of Rockbridge Baths (Bustleburg), passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2024.

Born July 26, 1937, in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Alice Strickler Toman.

He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers. Sisters were Francis Watkins, Helen Campbell, Mary Katherine Potter, Bertie Mae Potter, Susie Dudley, Violet Bolen, and Louise Tutwiler. Brothers were Charles and William Henry Toman. Bob was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He leaves behind a son, Rob Toman and wife Lauren, and a daughter, Sue Bonivitch, and a grandson, Jacob Toman. Also surviving is his best friend and partner, Betty Hamilton.

People come into our lives every day, but sometimes there is someone that's special, that stands out with a little different personality. That was Bob. He lived his life to the fullest. Along the way, there were setbacks, but he took everything in stride. While his health allowed, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening and tried his hand at raising cows. He also loved talking with his friends, and he had many. You always knew where you stood with him, and in his own blunt way he would let you know.

Bob's employment consisted mostly of working at Wayne Manufacturing, Smith's Transfer, and ABF in Carlisle, Pa., where he retired. He moved back to Bustleburg in 1999, enjoying his retirement.

A funeral will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Malcolm Brownlee officiating. Burial will follow at McElwee Chapel Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
