RC Girls Lose Twice

The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team suffered a pair of losses last week, falling 48-33 at home against Valley District rival Harrisonburg last Tuesday before Fort Defiance trounced the visiting Wildcats 52-13 on Thursday.

With the losses, the Wildcats fell to 2-16 overall and 0-5 in the district.

Against Harrisonburg, which improved to 2-13 overall and 2-4 in the district, it was a physical game, with 24 fouls called on the Wildcats and 16 on Harrisonburg.

The Blues Streaks jumped out to an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 28-12 by halftime, paced by McKenna Dayton’s 10 points.

A pair of 3-pointers from Emma Clark and a triple from Abby Bouchard helped RC cut the lead to 39-25 by the end of the third quarter, but Harrisonburg made shots and played strong defense to maintain a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Bouchard led RC with 11 points, Clark and Maddie Dahl each added six points, and Lola Mulitalo chipped in five. Dahl led RC with seven steals and six rebounds, Rachel Hines had four steals, and Parker Dameron grabbed five rebounds.

Dayton paced Harrisonburg with 19 points, while Astrid Arebalo scored nine points on three 3-pointers.

RC committed 17 turnovers, while Harrisonburg had 19.

FD 52, RC 13

The Wildcats suffered a 52-13 road loss to Fort Defiance on Thursday.

RC shot just 15.2 percent (5-of-33) from the field and committed 37 turnovers. Fort improved to 9-7.

Clark led RC with six points, while Bouchard scored three points. Mulitalo led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds and scored two points, Dahl pulled down seven boards, Dameron grabbed six rebounds, and Hines chipped in two points.

The Wildcats were scheduled to play host to Spotswood last night and will continue district action at home against Turner Ashby on Friday before playing at Broadway on Tuesday, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m. on both nights. Before Friday’s varsity game, RC’s final home game of the season, the Wildcats will honor their two seniors, McKenzie and Rachel Hines.
