May 16, 1973

The congregation of Lexington Presbyterian Church voted to buy the former Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on the corner of Main and Houston streets to use as a group home for children waiting for foster homes.

General Shale Products Corporation’s Locher Division plant in Glasgow received permission from the County Board of Supervisors to open a surface mine in Rockbridge.

 Washington and Lee University’s undefeated lacrosse team beat the University of Virginia’s team 15-11.

May 21, 2003

The Troubadour Cinema showed its last movie presented by the Washington and Lee Film Society. Future films would be shown in the new theater in John W. Elrod University Commons on the main campus.

Many area movie fans turned out to see a late night opening of “The Matrix Reloaded” at the State Theater in downtown Lexington. Among those in attendance was Gov. Mark Warner who was in town to give the commencement speech at Virginia Military Institute.
