April 25, 1973

Dr. George Douglas Larsen of Norfolk planned to open an office in Lexington’s Woody building for the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. - The construction of a new comprehensive high school in Rockbridge County took one step forward as the Rockbridge Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to sell $2 million worth of bonds for the project. - Laura Preston of Brownsburg celebrated her 101st birthday. She was born April 21, 1872, the only girl of seven children.

Bright yellow low flying aircraft would soon be seen in the skies above Rockbridge County as the war on gypsy moths was readied. -A three-judge panel of the U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that school-directed mealtime prayers at Virginia Military Institute were unconstitutional.

- Fifty-eight students received bachelor degrees at Southern Virginia University’s commencement ceremony, the largest number of graduates since the college was reorganized in 1996.
