April 18, 1973

Plans were being made to transfer Rockbridge Historical Society’s museum, library and archives from The Castle on Randolph Street to the Campbell House on Washington Street. Dr. Leslie Lyle Campbell bequeathed his house to the society in 1964. -In a review of Katie Letcher Lyle’s debut novel “I Will Go Barefoot All Summer For You,” the reviewer said, “It is a good book and a pleasure to read.” -A new U.S. flag was presented by American Legion Johnson Post No. 291 to Lylburn Downing School.

The Virginia Equine Center Foundation board of directors considered holding nonequestrian events in its coliseum. It was noted that Phish and The Dave Matthews Band played at the venue a decade before and thousands attended. - Construction of the Rockbridge area’s first public golf course began. -A forest fire on Bratton Mountain near Goshen was contained after burning about 1,600 acres.
