Pres Brown’s defeated Leggett 13-16 to win the 11-13 championship in the Lexington Little League Basketball Program. -A state veterinarian warned local horse owners about the dangers of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis. Vaccinations were recommended for show and race horses. - Major James Berger was reunited with his family after being released from a prison camp in North Vietnam. - Work began on six houses in a new residential development called Birdfield.

Workers in the Stillwater plant in Goshen were informed that the dye processing plant would close at the end of April. - Attorneys for Young Life filed suit in Rockbridge County Circuit Court against the county seeking a tax refund of $102,511.07. - Buena Vista opened bids for construction of an 18-hole municipal golf course. - Members of law enforcement prepared for the possibility of terrorist attacks as war with Iraq seemed inevitable.
