June Newbery, 90, died Oct. 10 in Clifton Forge

June Newbery, 90, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at Alleghany Health and Rehab in Clifton Forge after a long battle with dementia.

She was born on June 20, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Arthur George Newbery and Elvira Anita Fasano.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Nicholas Masullo, and daughter, Robin Masullo; and beloved aunt, Edna Fasano.

She is survived by two daughters, Pamela “Bo” Masullo and Karen Masullo; and devoted friends, Jared and Michele Huntsman.

June lived an adventurous life.  She was an avid reader and wrote newspaper articles for many papers throughout the country.  She loved to read and decipher the scriptures and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her greatest joy was being a house mother for numerous fraternities at Ohio State and Washington and Lee.  Her last house was the Sigma Chi Fraternity and she loved talking about her “boys.”

Life was not easy for June but she was small and mighty.  Her feisty personality stayed with her until the end.  She loved the written word, her cats, Mickey and Sam, and debating politics and religion and everything in between.

One of the last things she wrote was, “I know God as already given me the keys to His kingdom. I trust Him to take my hand and lead me there. Turn your cares over to Him when you can’t do it!” Written by a true writer! She will be missed by many.

As per June’s request, there will be no service.

Arrangements are being made by Harrison’s Funeral Home in Lexington.
