Monday, March 20 – Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Hot Pursuit 5K has been canceled. The running/walking race was scheduled to take place on April 15 at the Virginia Horse Center, raising funds for the Lexington Police Foundation and the Lexington Mounted Unit.
The decision was announced on Sunday night on the Hot Pursuit Facebook page, www.facebook.com/hotpursuit5Kevent, noting that all registered participants would be receiving a refund this week.
Hot Pursuit event director Lori Turner said the race, which took place twice before but did not take place the last three years, was canceled for various reasons. The police department did not have enough officers to help due to staff shortages, only 10 participants had signed up, and there was a struggle to find enough sponsorship, she said.
