For Harris

Oct. 16, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: Virginia Republicans are running scared on the issue of access to abortion care in the commonwealth.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s “Spirit of Virginia” PAC - funded generously by Youngkin and his corporate friends - has released a TV ad trying to persuade us that the Republican position on abortion isn’t so extreme after all. The ad claims that restrictions on abortion that the Virginia GOP wants to enact are reasonable and moderate. The PAC is spending $1.4 million to flood the airwaves with this ad.

But Chris Head, the Republican candidate for State Senate District 3, is no “moderate” on abortion. He is an extremist.

In 2012 Head voted for a bill in the General Assembly declaring: “The life of each human being begins at conception.” (bit. ly/3M0JMVg) It would have outlawed abortion at any stage of pregnancy for any reason with no exceptions.

I’ve seen no evidence that Head has changed his position. And Youngkin has stated that he will sign any anti-abortion legislation that reaches his desk, no matter how restrictive.

Don’t let Youngkin and his rich donors deceive you. Vote to protect women’s access to abortion care by voting for Jade Harris for State Senate District 3. GENE ZITVER Lexington
