Hall Runner-Up In Pa.

Led by senior co-captain Brice Hall’s runner-up finish, the Rockbridge County High School wrestling team placed 17th of 33 teams in the Southmoreland Holiday Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday at Southmoreland High School in Pennsylvania.

The Wildcats scored 78 points in the prestigious tournament, which firstyear RC head coach Mike Wood was familiar with from his coaching years in Pennsylvania. Butler won the tournament with 255.5 points, Plum placed second with 182 points, and Corry Area (151.5) finished third. Completing the top five were United (141) and Mc-Guffey (136).

At 172-pounds, Hall pinned his way to the quarterfinals, where he defeated Greenvillle’s Bennett Hayne in a 10-2 major decision. In the semifinals, Hall beat Butler’s Matt Zinkahn in a 12-0 decision. In the finals, Hall was pinned by Fort Cherry’s Braedon Welsh in 2:25.

Also earning medals for the Wildcats by placing in the top eight were senior cocaptain Zeke Mohr, placing fifth at 145-pounds, and junior Ryan Maxwell, finishing eighth at 121.

The Wildcats’ first competition of the new year will be the Liberty Christian Academy Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lynchburg.
