Glasgow

Carolyn Bradley, 258-2720

Last week we learned that Andi Bradley, who had been hired to replace the administrative assistant in Glasgow’s Town Hall, was suddenly found to be ineligible. Bradley has since returned to her old job at Walmart. We also announced that the town had hired Thomas Smals as the next town manager. He was to have begun his duties on June 1. Smals notified the town last week that he was declining the offer, noting he had accepted a position elsewhere.

Jane Higginbotham, who has served the town of Glasgow as administrative assistant for many years, has retired and says she is “looking forward to having time to do the things she wants to do, like joining the ladies in the knitting class at the library on Wednesday mornings.” We wish her all the best in her retirement, and appreciate all she did while part of Glasgow’s town staff.

The first in a series of Rockin’ the Gorge music events takes place this Saturday, June 3, at the Locher Pavilion. Little Marvin and the Martians will be providing the entertainment. Food and drink will be available for sale. Bring your lawn chairs, bring the family, and gather with friends for an evening of good music.

The Farmers Market is doing well thus far this season, although this past Saturday was the slowest, vendor-wise with only two set up. They are open Friday and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They have a full slate of vendors with crafts, produce, baked goods, plants and even a lemonade stand. The only trouble is, all vendors aren’t there all the time. Some come every weekend, some every other weekend, and some only on Friday, or Saturday. In the near future you will be able to get a henna tattoo and fairy hair attachments, and, of course, more tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash, etc., as more local gardens begin to grow and produce. We look forward to having Maple Swamp Farms and The Bakers’ Rack back on June 24, with meats and eggs, and delicious desserts.

Mike and Andi Bradley recently spent a week at the Outer Banks with family and friends.

Glasgow Baptist Church will host vacation Bible school June 19-23, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the evening for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
