The Natural Bridge Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a field day at Oak Bank Farm, 174 Oak Bank Drive, Natural Bridge, on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public but people are asked to call the Natural Bridge Soil and Water Conservation District at (540) 3196453 by Tuesday, May 9, so we can plan for lunch.

Thanks to the Funkhouser family for opening their farm for this event that will allow participants to see how state dollars have been used to protect soil and water resources. Participants will see alternative water supply points for livestock, fencing and tree plantings that enhance habitat in and around streams on Oak Bank Farm, and how the new interior fences will be used to ensure vegetative cover and extend the grazing season for the benefit of the environment.

The Oak Bank Farm Field Day begins with registration at the farm at 9 a.m. The morning program will highlight the conservation programs implemented at Oak Bank and how they will work to benefit the farm and water quality over time.

At 11:30 a.m., participants will move to the Natural Bridge firehouse for a light lunch and updates on pink eye control in cattle, important changes in antibiotic use in livestock, and changes to farm use vehicle tag regulations.

Thanks to the Rockbridge Cattlemen’s Association for its support of this event.
