Community Foundation Announces Scholarship Opportunities

The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany is now accepting scholarship applications for the graduating class of 2023.

The Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany is now accepting scholarship applications for the graduating class of 2023.

Applicants may apply online at www.cfrba.org between now and the March 31 deadline.

The Charles L. Lauck Jr. Memorial Scholarship is one of the scholarships being offered. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Rockbridge County High School senior who intends to enroll in a post-secondary institution for the following academic year. The following qualifications will be considered in the selection process: students must demonstrate high moral values, concern for others, and involvement in the school and community; they must have demonstrated the ability to balance an academic, athletic, and community-oriented career in high school; the student must have attended all four years at RCHS.

The Jacqueline Corbin Pleasants Democratic Scholarship is for a graduating senior from RCHS enrolling in an accredited two- or four-year college or university. They must demonstrate a capacity to complete college-level studies, exhibit good citizenship and leadership qualities and have a financial need.

The Lexington High School, Alumni Scholarship is available to provide higher-education scholarship assistance to needy and deserving students graduating from RCHS who demonstrates a capacity to satisfactorily complete college-level studies; They must also demonstrate good citizenship and leadership as evidenced in school and community activities; and demonstrate financial need.

The George C. Marshall Chapter of Military Officers Association of America is being offered to a graduating Rockbridge County resident who is a high school senior and intends to enroll in a post-secondary institution for the following academic year. The applicant must be a child of active duty, reserve, National Guard, or retired members of the United States armed services. They must also demonstrate a capacity to satisfactorily complete college-level studies based on GPA, standardized test scores and participation in extracurricular activities. Good citizenship and leadership must be evidenced in school and community activities. This is available to all students in area high schools, home-schooled students, and students who reside in the area but attend private schools outside the county.

The Blair Family Scholarship is offered to a graduating senior or graduate of RCHS who intends to enroll in summer/fall as a student full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university in Virginia. They must demonstrate a capacity to satisfactorily complete college-level studies through high academic achievement, good citizenship as evidenced in school and community activities, with strong preference to applicants with extensive leadership experience in 4-H and athletic participation and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must be a resident of Rockbridge Baths. In the event that there is no eligible candidate from Rockbridge Baths, the scholarship may be awarded to a Rockbridge County resident.

The Pastor Fred for the Bethesda/ McElwee Chapel Scholarship is being offered to graduating seniors or recent graduates (within three years) of RCHS or home schooled applicants. They must intend to enroll beginning in the summer/fall as a student fulltime in an accredited two- or four-year college or university, trade program or certificate program. Applicants should demonstrate a capacity to satisfactorily complete college-level studies through high academic achievement, and meeting all other requirements of the technical/trade school or certificate program of the institution selected; good citizenship as evidenced in school and community activities. Strong preference will be given to applicants with extensive leadership experience and financial need. Applicants should be an active participant in the life of Bethesda/McElwee Chapel parish. In the event there is no eligible candidate from Bethesda/McElwee Chapel, the scholarship may be rolled over or awarded as the committee sees appropriate.

The Stonewall Jackson Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship is being offered to a graduating senior or graduate of the service area who begins in the summer/fall as a student full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Applicants should demonstrate a capacity to satisfactorily complete college-level studies through high academic achievement, be pursuing a college education in the medical field, and demonstrate financial need.
