‘Bother To Vote In Primaries’

April 19, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: Not long ago, America was a place where racism, anti-semitism, xenophobia, misogyny, homophobia, white nationalism and Christian bigotry, while whispered between adherents, were thought too embarrassing to be publicly acknowledged. No more. Trump tapped into the hate that has always existed.

Under the banner of true-blue-Americanism, the Republican Party has been high-jacked by those who want a one party, one identity America — theirs — and some are frantic about a world-wide conspiracy of pedophiles and cannibals run out of a pizza parlor, Satan personally behind it, Hillary Clinton in charge.

Now that Fox has admitted lying about election fraud, paying damages of $787.5 million to Dominion, will MAGA folks accept that a dead Venezuelan dictator did not hack voting machines, that Italian satellites did not change ballots, that Nancy Pelosi did not have a financial interest in Dominion voting machines?

No. Conspiracy mongers employ “non-falsifiable” arguments. You can’t prove them wrong because, like Giuliani’s and Sydney Powell’s evidence, it is forever just an inch away! Their proof — like the arrow in Zeno’s paradox, never arrives. Or they insist evidence can’t be found because the bad guys are so good at hiding it. So how do they know it exists? Or they just repeat lies because their team listens only to the conspiracy news station — see Jordan Klepper’s hilarious interviews of in-the-know MAGA folks, on YouTube.

They shriek hysterically about replacement theory, critical race theory (studied in graduate schools, not grade schools) or rant about vaccines, which resulted in MAGA adherents dying disproportionately from COVID. All of this is blessed by the right-wing fringe now running the Republican Party— because the conspiracy crowd always votes in primaries.

There is the go-to ranting about socialism (practiced where?) and communism (practiced where?). If you eliminate countries run by criminal gangs, murderers or dictators who practice neither, name a country which has adopted either?

Present conspiracy theories make National Enquirer nonsense seem like scientific reports issued by Einstein.

The solution is simple. Bother to vote in primaries. Non-voters are to blame. JOE PETITE Rockbridge
