Winter Storm Heading Here This Weekend
An incoming weather system is expected to bring potentially dangerous conditions to the Rockbridge area over the weekend. According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service for southwest and west central Virginia, winter precipitation is likely Saturday and Sunday. Travel is expected to be impacted. As of Tuesday, the National Weather Service forecasts a 100% chance of precipitation Saturday with rain, snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 10 on Sat- urday night. The storm system is expected to exit the area Sunday morning.

Concerned Residents Form Maury River Group
Dec. 29, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: Rockbridge area residents and visitors expressed deep concern over the heavy sediment and bright green algae seen in the Maury River throughout August 2023. These environmental threats to life in and along the river resulted from the extended, high-volume release of water from Lake Merriweather. The release was undertaken in anticipation of dredging activity projected for the fall of 2023.
