Tree Dedicated To Museum Volunteer
Tree Dedicated To Museum Volunteer
Members of the Lexington Garden Club came to the Jackson House on March 13 for the dedication of a tree memorial to Gloria Lauria, an active member of the garden club for over 20 years. She also worked at the Jackson House from 1980 until 2011 when she had to step down due to her health. She was a tireless supporter of the Jackson House garden and was always willing to share her love and passion of gardening with anyone she spoke with at the site, a club spokeswoman said. In 1993, the Jackson House Museum began recording volunteer hours, and Lauria donated 1,527 hours from 1993 to 2011. She may have donated over 3,000 hours to the museum during her 30-year tenure as a garden volunteer. Pictured are (from left) Becky Patton, Zora Jenkins, Maj. Grace Moyer, Jackson House director, Anne Elmes, Lynn Leech and Carolyn Elliott. The Lexington Garden Club has upcoming meetings at several historic and business locations over the next eight months. Anyone interested in learning about these events and wish to attend is asked to get in touch with Patton at [email protected]. 03/29/2023 12:00 AM

The portrait will hang in the hospital’s board room, which is already named for him. Derrick, former Lexington mayor and longtime member of the hospital’s board, died last September. “Our community is greatly indebted to Buddy and the Derrick family for their commitment to the entire community and especially the hospital,” said Friedman. “Buddy supported the work of the hospital as mayor, as resident, as board member, as financial contributor, and as patient on a few occasions.” 03/29/2023 12:00 AM
