At Faith Mountain
At Faith Mountain
It was an unseasonably warm day for the community-wide fall festival at Faith Mountain Baptist Church Saturday, but that did not keep people away, especially the children seeking Halloween treats. Community members were invited to decorate their cars for a trunk or treat and live music was provided throughout the afternoon. (Joann Ware photos) 11/01/2023 12:00 AM

Halloween Trunks At GMP
Halloween Trunks At GMP
The last weekend before Halloween was a busy one for the Rockbridge area. Among the events was the annual trunk or treat at Glen Maury Park. Hundreds of costumed treat seekers came to the park on Saturday evening. Campers at the park were also giving away candy and many of the RVs were decked out in creepy décor. Several members of the Mountain Gateway Community College Educational Foundation Board gathered for a photo in their Western attire at the “Bubbles, Bands and Brunch” fundraising event – the theme was “Stampede!”-- held at MGCC Oct. 8. Pictured are (from left) Helen Kostel of Clifton Forge; Deborah and William Weddle, and Mark and Elaine Nelson, all of Lexington (the Nelsons were also recognized as “Partners” for their contribution to the event); and Susan and Mike Friski, also of Lexington. Since 2003, “Bubbles,” which was brought back this fall after a hiatus of four years, has raised more than $70,000 in scholarships for continuing students. Community Halloween Events Start Saturday
Get out your candy bowls and finish up work on your children’s costumes – and yours. Halloween time has arrived, and there’s plenty of spooky fun planned in the Rockbridge area over the coming days. As usual, there are trick-or-treat events planned in downtown Lexington and Buena Vista on Halloween Day, Tuesday, but the fun actually gets underway in Glasgow and Glen Maury Park this Saturday with trunk-or-treat events. And there are several other events on the Halloween horizon. Among those other events are the National Honor Society Halloween Fair at Rockbridge County High School from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and a Halloween cakewalk and raffle at the Natural Bridge firehouse sponsored by the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The trunk-or-treat event at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, and area residents wishing to hand out candy from their vehicles are welcome to participate. Some of the campers are also expected 10/25/2023 12:00 AM
