Voting In The Special Election
Sharon Justice checks in with election officials Nancy Sika and Sherri Wheeler at the Buena Vista precinct Tuesday before casting her vote in the special election for the 24th District seat in the House of Delegates. On the ballot were Republican Ellen Campbell, wife of the late Del. Ronnie Campbell, and Jade Harris, the Democratic candidate from Glasgow. Because of production deadlines, the preliminary results of yesterday’s election are not included in today’s edition. Check the newspaper’s website at www.thenewsgazette. com for those results. Most of Virginia’s annual crop of calves leave the state after they have had time to grow on our lush pastures. They are generally purchased by cattle feeders in the Corn Belt states or the Great Plains who provide them a ration of grain byproducts, corn and roughage for a period of feeding prior to slaughter. The cattle feeders that purchase Virginia cattle are looking for calves that have been bred with excellent genetics for beef quality and have benefited from sound management practices that ensure they are healthy and thrive after their trip westward.
