The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office made the following felony arrests over the past six weeks: Zeb Anthony Henson, 47, of Lexington, for one felony count of breaking and entering and one count of grand larceny on July 6.

New Dress Code Proposed For PMHS
Parry McCluer High School’s principal, Todd Jones, has been working throughout the past year with a committee comprised of students, teachers, and parents to revise the school’s dress code. Jones believes their efforts have developed a more concise and positive dress code for students and teachers.

Goshen Eyes Collecting Lodging Tax Revenues
At its regular meeting on July 6, Goshen Town Council discussed beginning the process of having the town take over collection of the transient occupancy tax (also known as the lodging tax) to keep the revenue generated within the town. Rooms rented in the town are currently subject to a 10 percent transient occupancy tax which is collected by Rockbridge County.

“Agriculture is Virginia’s number one industry” is a statement often repeated when we speak of agriculture’s importance to the region and the truth of this statement is derived from economic measures of farm output and value-added products produced in Virginia. By these conventional economic measures, agriculture’s preeminence in Virginia’s economy appears to be largely derived from the value-added poultry and pork products and the employment these food industries bring to the communities where they are located.

July 1 has come and gone, we’re in a new fiscal year and Virginia still doesn’t have a budget. Sure, the state does technically have a biennial budget approved by the General Assembly in 2022 that remains in effect, but what to do with billions in surplus funds has yet to be decided.
