Bunting Visits For Ceremony
Former Virginia Military Institute superintendent Lt. Gen. Josiah Bunting III greets a guest at a ceremony last month recognizing his recent contributions to VMI’s archives. Twenty-six containers of Bunting’s papers, ranging from his time as a VMI cadet in the 1960s through 2020, were donated to VMI. Bunting served as VMI’s superintendent from 1995 to 2003 and oversaw the school’s transition to coeducation. For the story on his papers and his visit to Lexington, see page B7. The Rockbridge Area Relief Association celebrated its 50th anniversary this past Saturday at its headquarters at the Piovano building on Spotswood Drive. A tasty assortment of nibbles was provided by Ladles & Linens. Pronto served up sfogliatelle and cannoli for dessert. Beer was supplied by Devils Backbone and wine by Sassaia. Datz Us Ramblers were on hand for musical entertainment and activities such as face painting and a bounce house were available for the children in attendance. The organization provides food through its Neighborhood Grocery (formerly known as the food pantry) and offers assistance for people who are struggling to pay their bills.
