Thrower Harlow Places Fourth To Lead PM Boys
For the second Saturday in a row, Parry McCluer High School senior Kamilah Richardson won the girls’ shot put to lead the Fighting Blues at the East Coast Elite Meet at Roanoke College’s Kerr-Cregger field house in Salem.
Richardson’s best throw went 37 feet, 11.5 inches, just 4.75 inches shy of her school record. Union’s Harper Potter placed second to Richardson for the second week in a row, with a toss of 36-7.25, while Blacksburg’s Molly Lynn finished third with a throw of 33-6.75.
Proud of Richardson, PM throwing coach Danny Cole said, “Kamilah continues to stay at the 37-foot-plus range, and consistency is her goal, and she is doing a good job doing so.”
Also competing in the girls’ shot put for PM was sophomore Phoebe Woods, placing 17th with a personal-record (PR) toss of 24-6.
In the boys’ shot put, junior Griffin Harlow led the Blues, placing fourth with a PR throw of 53-0.25. PM senior Rayshan Richardson finished 13th with a toss of 44-0, while junior teammate Vincent Wilson came in 23rd with a PR throw of 38-1.5.
Impressed by Harlow, Cole said, “He had a great meet, and his PRs are climbing at the right time.” Cole said he’s happy where the group of throwers are as a team.
The top finish for the PM runners, who rested most of their top runners, came from sophomore Henry Lovelace, placing eighth in the boys’ 55meter hurdles in 9.22 seconds.
In the boys’ 1600-meter run, sophomore Sam Carpenter finished 41st in 5:14.79.
Senior Kyra Lee, PM’s only female runner, placed 18th in the 1600-meter run in 6:09.16.
The Blues will return to the Kerr-Cregger field house for the Region 1C meet on Saturday, Feb. 22, starting with field events at 3 p.m. In addition to those qualified by time or distance, the top three individuals and top three relay teams will advance to the Class 1 state meet.
