Jan. 15, 1975

County school officials were moving ahead with a plan for a vocationaltechnical facility. Federal money for such a facility was available to Rockbridge, but the locality had to act promptly to receive it.

--- Two area industries caught in the national gas squeeze chose to convert some broilers from gas to more expensive oil when the supply of gas was cut back to 45% by Columbia Gas.

--- Federal funds totaling over $30,000 for creation of public service jobs were expected to boost the Rockbridge area’s faltering economy in 1975. The unemployment rate hovered around 7.1%.

Auto Recyclers’ bid to acquire the former Stillwater Plant near Goshen did not come to fruition.

--- Activist Angela Davis spoke to a crowd of 300 people at Lee Chapel. In her speech, she was highly critical of the George W. Bush administration and said that if Martin Luther King Jr. were alive, he’d be a foe of the administration.

--- Krista Dorey and her father Tom Dorey purchased City Steaks and Subs.
