Multi-vehicle Accident At I-81 Bridge in Fairfield

1:30 p.m. Tuesday - Two crashes at the southbound bridge at the Fairfield exit this afternoon has all southbound traffic on Interstate 81 blocked, as well as Sterrett Road. Backups on the interstate have already reached 4 miles, according to VDOT, and traffic is being detoured off I-81 north of the bridge and back on the interstate south of the bridge.

State police say there are no major injuries in the crashes, but there will have to an extensive cleanup

State police say Sterrett Road will be blocked for an extended period of time.

    Area residents are advised to avoid the area.
