‘Ignorance,’ Not Schools, Real Threat To Students

Aug. 28, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: About the Aug. 23 letter “Stand Up for Our Kids,” I am sad at the complete misunderstanding of our public schools.

Aug. 28, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: About the Aug. 23 letter “Stand Up for Our Kids,” I am sad at the complete misunderstanding of our public schools.

Our public schools are not “grooming” children to engage with inappropriate learning. Perhaps a lack of recent experience with the schools is at play. Our public school teachers, librarians and staff are honest, caring, and intelligent citizens going above and beyond to educate and protect area children. And is characterizing children as “commodities” ever a good idea? While threats to kids are in some measure real, the threat is not from our public schools. Any threat seems to me to originate in intentional ignorance and fear-based belief.

Please help end hogwash. It only makes things harder for school employees and all children.
