Down By The Old Mill

Down By The Old Mill

The sun came out for Wade’s Mill’s 30th annual apple butter festival this past Saturday. ABOVE LEFT, apple butter is stirred in an antique kettle on the grounds of the mill. TOP RIGHT, attendees listen to music performed by the local band Caravan of Fools. MIDDLE LEFT, Glen Bryant of Iron Gate gives a demonstration on the ancient art of blacksmithing. BELOW RIGHT, brightly colored tractors were available for youths to explore. BOTTOM LEFT, Elissa Parish of Staunton brought her portable looms to the festival for people to make narrow strips of woven fabric known as tapes, bands or ribbons. BOTTOM MIDDLE, alpacas were on hand for people to pet. BOTTOM RIGHT, the historic mill was available for people to tour. The mill has been producing stoneground grains since 1750.
