September 11, 2001 was a Tuesday, so that week's edition of The News-Gazette was nearing it's final stages of completion when news of the terrorist attacks made its way to Rockbridge County. The News-Gazette was still able to report on it for that week but the following week had a more comprehensive telling how those events affected people in our community. This week's flashback will be focusing on the Sept. 19 issue of the paper.

- A local couple tells of their son who helped with the search for victims at the Pentagon.
- How residents of Rockbridge County and the cities of Lexington and Buena Vista responded to the Sept. 11 events.
- Debate over the boundaries for the new tourism district.
- The plan for Lowe's, next to Walmart, was approved.
Included in this week's flashback are numerous articles and photos that tell of the area residents' response to the September 11 attacks, which range from making ribbons in remembrance, to offering donations and vigils.
