Sept. 14, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I know that most people in Rockbridge County tend to vote Republican, and that’s fine. Not all Republicans are right wing extremists, any more than all Democrats are “the radical Left.”
I’m sure Ben Cline is a fine fellow, but if you go to Gov-Track.us and search for his legislative record, you will find that he has essentially done nothing to improve the lives of his constituents. I think we can do better.
If you are a Republican, please realize that voting for Beth Macy does not make you a Democrat. It just makes you someone who wants to make life better for yourself, your children, your neighbors, and your fellow citizens. Why not give her a chance? You can always vote her out in a few years if you’re not happy. That’s the beauty of democracy. PHILLIP WELCH Rockbridge County
