Lenfest’s 35th anniversary celebration and Outreach & Engagement Series will present National Theatre Live’s “All My Sons,” Arthur Miller’s powerful American classic, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in Stackhouse Theater, W&L Elrod Commons.
Filmed live from Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End, the movie features critically acclaimed stars like Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Hard Truths”).
Running time is 150 minutes with no interval.
At the heart of Arthur Miller’s play is the Keller family, whose seemingly comfortable life is haunted by a post-World War II tragedy. When the long-held truths resurface, the family is asked to confront different questions about love, loyalty, guilt and responsibility, all while their relationships are being tested and trialed. Using a more relatable family story to reflect a larger moral and social picture, the drama raises the question about how far we are willing to go to protect our closest ones, especially if it costs.
Directed by Ivo van Hove and designed by Jan Versweyveld, the production has earned widespread positive critics since its debut. The Guardian praised its “dream cast” with a 5-star rating, while The Evening Standard called it an “astonishing piece of theater.” In terms of the cast, The Independent praised Cranston, stating that he was “magnetic” in the play’s “masterful staging.”
