Two Groups Performing At Boxerwood

Two Groups Performing At Boxerwood
SHESTER, DATZ & NEWHALL

Shester, Datz & Newhall will perform on the meadow stage at Boxerwood this Friday Sept. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Half Brassed Brass Band will open for them.

Blake Shester, Burr Datz and Dan Newhall have performed together for many public and private events since 2011. They play a mix of traditional, contemporary, and progressive bluegrass with a high lonesome three-part harmony.

The Half Brassed Brass Band is a New Orleans- inspired brass band composed of and led by Rockbridge County High School students. Formed in 2023, they are dedicated to making music and sharing it by busking in downtown Lexington and at Charlottesville’s walking mall. Half Brassed has won first place at the high school talent show as well as people’s choice three years in a row. Their lineup consists of saxophones, trumpets, trombone, and drum set. The band’s repertoire includes covers of funk and pop tunes plus original compositions, including new songs off their upcoming album.

The gate opens at 5:30 p.m. so that early arrivers can meet up with friends to picnic, socialize or get a bite to eat. There will not be a food truck at this show.

Admission is free for children and current Boxerwood members and $5 per adult for nonmembers. There’s no charge for parking in the field. There is dedicated handicapped parking and the terrain is suitable for wheelchairs.
