The Oxford community extends their deepest sympathy to the family of Shirley Montgomery who passed away Aug. 29 after a brief illness. Shirley was a lifelong member of our community and her presence will be missed. Remember her family in your prayers.
Oxford’s children’s Sunday school will pick back up on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. The adult class is currently meeting each week and continuing their preliminary study on Dietrich Bonhoeffer for the next three Sundays, prior to moving on to a study of Bonhoeffer’s “The Cost of Discipleship” RARA and the Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee University are continuing the mobile food pantry at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department the second Thursday of each month, next scheduled for Sept. 10 from 2 to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge. This month they will have backpacks with snacks and school materials available for families with school age children.
The Forum at Oxford returns on Sept. 27 with guest speaker Jen Irwin. She will be sharing her experience on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage through France, Spain and Portugal. The Forum takes place immediately after the Sunday morning worship service.
Congratulations to Tanner Mae Deacon, daughter of Seth and Meagan Deacon, who was awarded High Interview, Most Photogenic and crowned 2026 Preteen Rockbridge Fair Queen this past weekend.
Let’s also remember the many young people in our community who are preparing to participate in the upcoming agriculture and livestock shows at the state fair in Doswell Sept. 25-Oct. 4. They work hard to represent us well and make us proud.
