High Bridge

The Rev. Steve Willis returned to the pulpit this past Sunday at High Bridge Presbyterian Church. Attending the service was Richie Tolley of Lynchburg. Communion was served and the deacons met after the service.

The Presbyterian Women’s mission for the third quarter will be Natural Bridge Elementary School. Betsy Shepard has a list of the items needed.

Thanks to Donna Lotts for directing and to Dwinnie Shafer for presenting the Bible lesson at vacation Bible school this past Sunday.

The annual church worship and picnic at Cave Mountain Lake will be on Sunday, Aug. 30.

Small Church will be held tomorrow, Thursday, July 23, at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Joe Hawes will lead the bible study on the second chapter, book of Hebrews. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to attend.

Dianne Pennington of Salem attended the Natural Bridge High School 1981 class reunion recently. Local church members attending were John Pollock and Joey Manspile.

Brenda Shafer and Cathy Ayers have returned from an eight-day Mystery Bus Tour of the Midwest.

Afternoon and evening circles are not meeting in July. The next evening meeting will be the first Tuesday in August at 6 p.m. with Garnette Teass. Afternoon circle meets Aug. 11 in the fellowship hall at 1 p.m.

The Natural Bridge/ Glasgow food pantry celebrated its 30-year anniversary with an open house this past Saturday. Attending were several special guests. Mrs. Ed Riggs, wife of the former pastor at Beth Horon Methodist church, began the food pantry with Doris Hedrick at the same church. Other guests attending were the Glasgow mayor and town council members, Robin Swecker (Partner Engagement Manager at the Blue Ridge Distribution Center), the county commissioner, the Buena Vista Food Lion manager, pantry board member officers and many other guests. This celebration was coordinated by the board president John Pollock. A nice reception was held with refreshments. Thanks to everyone who attended.

The food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, and close at 11 a.m. They welcome donations of canned vegetables for the month of July. ...
