William Hsieh, a Lexington native and rising junior at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Md., will present a fundraising piano recital on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Lexington Presbyterian Church.
The program will feature works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and others.
Admission is free, and donations will be accepted to benefit the Rockbridge Symphony.
William organized this recital as a way to share the music he loves with the community that helped nurture his musical journey. He hopes the event will raise support for musical opportunities in the Rockbridge area and encourage more young people to explore and enjoy music.
William began studying piano in Lexington with Byron Petty before continuing his musical education in the Washington, D.C., area at Levine School of Music. Over the years, he has received numerous awards and performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the National Gallery of Art, and the embassies of Bulgaria and Italy in Washington.
In addition to his solo work, William is an enthusiastic chamber musician. For the past two summers, he has participated in the Kennedy Center Summer Music Institute, where student musicians spend several weeks rehearsing and refining chamber works before presenting them on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. William says he especially enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with other young musicians, learning to listen, adapt, and build a performance together in a short period of time.
