There was a birthday request for this week's Flashback Friday! Let's take a look at the news from November 13, 1968.
The front page stories for that issue were:
- An early big snow caused "more than 90 per cent of BARC's customers" to be without power. It also had unusual snowfall in certain areas, ranging from a few inches to over a foot in depth.
- The county received a framed certificate from the Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce for getting rid of the "dread cow disease" called Brucellosis.
- Rockbridge County School Superintendent Floyd Kay faced some backlash for installing two window air conditioners in the school board offices "against their express wishes."
- An update on the plan to lower the pigeon population in downtown Lexington.
The sports section boasts a brilliant alliterative title, the Coach's Corner deserves a read, and check out The News-Gazette's Player of the Week!
The front page stories about the storm and the brucellosis are continued on the page that also features a local man posing for a photo with his banana tree.
Finish up this week with the section "This and That" and a map that shows the location for the new power line project that would run through Goshen Pass.
