Kerrs Creek

Rachel Clark, (630)

Thank you for your prayers for the Baja mission team members from New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. The participants are looking forward to sharing about their adventures and the family they were able to work with. Join them for lemonade and cookies after worship on July 26.

The Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club met at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church on June 16.

One of our scholarship recipients, Price Lunsford, attended the meeting. He played football at RCHS, along with basketball, baseball, and lacrosse. He will be attending Roanoke College in the fall. He plans on majoring in sports and business management.

Breanne Rogers and Heather McCormick spoke about the Magnolia Center that is run through the Community Services Board. It is a day program with currently 25 clients that participate in the center-based and community-based programs. They work on social skills, communication, daily living and many other skills needed for independence. They offer many group activities and individual instruction. There is a big group event, the Christmas play, they put on every year. The staff and clients work together. Clients go out into the community for outings, activities, shopping and eating out to build positive relationships with others, and to develop a sense of belonging. They volunteer at the food bank, Heritage Hall, and Meals on Wheels. Clients have a waiver to complete and when slots come available new people can get into the program. There are staff members who reach out to families and clients to help link them up to services. Transportation is offered, through RATS and different companies. They receive funding through multiple services, grants, billable services and donations.

The Ruritan District Convention is Nov. 7 at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church.

Christy Harris will be our club president for the next six months.

The next club meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church at 6:30 p.m. Bring your favorite summer salad.
